夕暮れに染まる誰のものでもない空の色、季節の移ろいにみせはじめる、木々たちの葉のゆるやかに変化する深い彩り。時間と自然がみせてくれる色彩に魅せられ、「色」に心を向けるようになりました。
色彩と光はとても深く関係し、自然界の折々の色はその時だけのものであり、刻々と変わる時間の中で同一の色に出逢うことはありません。色彩は移ろいゆくことをはらみながら、今にその色を留めています。古裂にみられる天然染料の草木からの色も、時間とともにその色を移ろわせ、今に遺されています。そしてその色は褪色がみられても奥行きがあり、澄んだ美しさがあります。 心に長く温めてまいりました単色の古裂のみで展開する企画展をこのたび開催いたします。江戸時代の絹、木綿、麻、紬を中心に、会場の空間を美しい古色の単色で満たしたいと思います。仕覆の裏裂に、表具裂に、何よりも今に伝え遺された「色」の世界を御覧いただけましたら幸いです。 皆様の御来場を心よりお待ち申し上げます。

■ ご入場の際はマスク（できましたら不織布マスク）のご着用・手指の消毒・検温・ご氏名とご連絡先のご記入をお願いいたします。

 

■ １１：３０より会場入口にてご入場時間を指定させていただいた整理券を配布いたします。

 

■ 会場入口が近隣店舗様と接近しているため、会場前に列の状態でお並びいただくことができませんので、大変恐縮ですが、整理券配布時間よりも前にお並びいただかないよう皆様のご協力をお願いいたします。１１：３０に入口にいらしていただいた方から順に配布いたします。

 

■ 密を避けるため、会場内にご入場されるお客様の人数を7名様前後までとさせていただきます。お一人様あたりのご滞在時間はお会計を含めて４０分程度以内までに区切らせていただきます。

 

■ 開催中会場内の人数を７名様前後に保つ形で、お一人様のお時間の区切りごとに随時入替制とさせていただきます。前の入場人数によりましては２名様以上でご来場されたお客様の入場時間が分かれる場合もございます。ご容赦下さいませ。

 

■ 混雑状況によりましては会期中のいかなる時間帯でも、ご入場時間を指定させていただいた整理券をお渡しする可能性がございます。（御来場いただいた際にすぐにご入場できない場合はお待ちいただく形になります。）

About “The Beauty of Monochrome”

 

This exhibition was a special one that featured only monochromatic fabric, focusing on Edo period’s silk, cotton, Asa(hemp or ramie), and Tusmugi silk dyed with natural materials.. The venue was filled with Edo period’s monochromatic colors. Every single item displayed was a solid color fabric. This was an exhibition that I always had kept in a very special place of my heart for many years. Many attended this exhibition and resonated with the beauty of the monochromatic color of the Edo period and we received some positive feedback. I will continue to cherish the“color”that has survived in Japan, and will try to pass on its existence to the next generation.

The Beauty of Monochrome

 

The beautiful color of the sky at dusk which doesn’t belong to anyone, the deep colors of the leaves that are changing slowly as the season shifts… I have been fascinated with the colors that nature and the passage of time have shown me, and I have come to think more deeply about the concept of“color.”
Color and light are very closely related, and the various colors that nature produces can only be seen at one time. We will never come across the same color twice in the constantly changing time. The color is destined to change, and it remains in that color only at that very moment. The color of antique fabrics that were dyed using natural materials have changed over time and preserved its color to date. Even when the color fades, the same beauty exists in the color.

 

We are pleased to announce the upcoming exhibition that features only monochromatic textiles; this was a concept that has been on my mind for a long time. I would like to fill the space with beautiful antique monochromatic items, such as silk, cotton, hemp, ramie, and pongee from Edo period. We hope that you will take this opportunity to come and appreciate the world of exquisite “color”that has been passed down to this day.

■Notice about the Exhibition
Please note the following for the measures against COVID-19.

 

■When entering please wear a face mask (surgical mask preferred), disinfect your hands, take temperature, and fill in your contact information. If you need a face mask, please let us know.

 

■From 11:30 am, we will start distributing numbered tickets with designated admission time for the entrance.

 

■Since the venue’s entryway is close to those of the neighboring stores, please do not line up in front of the venue prior to 11:30 am. We will start distributing the tickets on a first come first served basis starting at 11:30.

 

■In　order to keep the proper social distance between customers, we will have to limit the number of customers at the venue to around 7 people at a time. Because of these constraints, we will also have to ask you to limit your time at the venue to be around 40 minutes (including checkout time) per person. We appreciate your understanding.

 

■During the exhibition, as we will be keeping the number of the visitors to be no more than 7 people at any given time, multiple people may not be able to enter at the same time. We greatly appreciate your collaboration.

 

■Should the venue become overcrowded, we plan on giving out numbered tickets with a designated admission time. Please understand that there may be a possibility that we may have to ask you to wait until the designated time of the entrance.

 

■In an unlikely event that the numbered tickets are all given out before the closing time, we will notify on our Instagram and home page.

 

■We will follow the above guidelines for both of our exhibitions.

９月開催予定

 

裂のほとりⅦ　 前期「単色の美」のご案内です。

 

９月２８日（火）－２９日（水）に開催予定の「単色の美」は、天然染料で染色された江戸時代の絹・木綿・麻（大麻または苧麻）・紬を中心として、単色の古裂のみで展開する企画展になります。 今展では、単色のものでも地文様が織り出されているものにつきましては出品に取り入れずに、全てplainの無地の裂にて展開する形です。単色無地に染め上げられた古裂の、古く魅力的な色彩の表れと、素材による色感、目に映るひとつの色の深き浅きに、そこに自然をみるような美しさが在ることをご紹介させていただきたいと思います。

 

「単色の美」に出品予定の裂々は、寺院に奉納され、年記銘が墨書されている染織品のように江戸時代の年記は認められてはおりませんが、江戸時代のきものや江戸時代の衣服の一部に使われていたもの、寺裂の裏地を自身で引き解いたものなど、江戸期の裂と当店が判断しているものを軸に出品いたします。 今回二日間と短い会期ですが、「色」の存在は自分の中でとても大きな存在としてあるので、一度ならず今後もささやかでも何らかの形で色彩の企画を温めてまいりたいと思います。

 

どの地域や階層においても、身に纏う色が古代より続く天然染料によって染められていた、その最後の時代が江戸時代ということを思うと、日本の色彩文化を考える上で江戸期はとても重要な時代であり、現代の服飾の世界におかれましても何か新鮮な発見がこの時代の中に在るような気がしています。今に伝え遺された天然染料による古裂の色に、江戸時代の草木たちの息吹が潜んでいること、日本の単色無地の古裂の豊かな色彩の世界の一端を御覧いただけましたら幸いです。

こちらは江戸後期の蹴鞠装束の白地鞠袴の裏地に使われていた紅花染めの平絹です。 以前入手したこちらよりも時代の古い、江戸中期くらいあるように思える白地鞠袴の裏地にも、同じような色調の紅花染めの平絹が使われておりましたので、もしかすると白地の鞠袴にはこのような色の絹布を裏地に使用するというような約束ごとがあるのかもしれません。

「単色の美」によせて    

 

「ひとつの色」  

 

単色無地の古裂は包み裂や表具裂、酒器をくるむのに使われることが多いけれど、その染め色は深く豊富で尽きない美しさがある。 草木からの色は確かに人の心を穏やかに染めてくれるし、その色をみていると木々や空をみている時と共通するくつろぎがやってくる。 空間に色を掛けると花や植物が室内に在る空気ととても近い。そう感じている。 木綿、絹、紬、麻。いつかひとつの色の、無地の古裂だけで蓮らしく小さな展覧会をしよう。 裂から草木の気配が感じられる、そんなふうな展覧会を。 小冊子『裂のほとり』より  

 

２０１７年の秋に初めて編んだ小冊子『裂のほとり』に、江戸から明治初頃の単色無地の古裂とともに、この文章をページに綴りました。時代の染め織りの世界には様々な作品がありますが、ひとつの色がひろがりゆく、深く静かな単色の古裂の美しさを長い間みつめてまいりました。天然染料の草木から染められた色は、複雑にいくつもの色彩を湛えているように感じられ、その色は淡いものでも奥行きがあり、心に響きます。ひとつの色の深き浅きに色彩の無限を想い、染め色に感じられる和やかなものからは、色へと変じてくれた草木たちが、ここに潜んでいることを想うのです。  

 

蓮では単色の裂の中でも、とくに色が美しいと感じられるものを今後も熱を込めて集めてまいりますが、心にあたためてまいりました単色の古裂のみで展開する展示会を、このたび開催させていただきます。長い間色を選び、集めてまいりました。江戸時代のものを中心に、会場の空間を美しい古色の単色で満たしたいと思います。仕覆の裏裂に、表具裂に、仕込みの裂に、何よりも今に遺された色の「色」を、ぜひ御覧いただけましたらと思います。２日間の短い会期でございますが、ご無理のない範囲でご予定いただけましたら幸いです。会期が近くなりましたら、展示会に関する詳細を更新してまいります。 どうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。
