ごあいさつ

染織品における縞・格子・絣の文様と意匠は世界各地に見られ、古くから人びとの装いと表現に深く関わってきました。ひとすじの糸は縞となり格子となり、染め分けられた糸はのびやかに絣となって表れ、織物の中で多様な表情と豊富なパターンを限りなく展開してゆきます。
今展では江戸時代を軸に「縞・格子・絣」の古裂を、熱を込めて特集いたします。茶器や酒器の仕覆に、掛軸の表具に、また、染織資料として貴重な断片裂等、印象的な色調の裂を集めました。

Message

Stripe, lattices, and kasuri pattered cloth and these designs on dyed and woven products are found all over the world, and have been deeply related to people’s clothing and expressions since ancient times.
A single line of thread becomes stripe and lattices patterns and the beautifully dyed kasuri yarn develops into delicate yet dynamic kasuri .　These designs endlessly create various expressions and numerous patterns on textiles. This exhibition focusing on the Edo period, we enthusiastically introduce you to the world of antique textiles featuring “stripe, lattices, and kasuri ”patterns.
We have collected a variety of attractive dyed and woven antique fabric fragments that are valuable as reference materials in striking colors and shades which can be used for items such as tea container bags and framing for hanging scrolls.
We would be delighted to have your presence at this exhibition.
